Ruchi - I had the privilege of working with Kate Colette, the owner of Starland Pilates Studio in Savannah, GA, and I cannot speak highly enough of her dedication, expertise, and genuine passion for Pilates. As the owner of the only studio in town offering reformer-based Pilates, Kate was a true local legend.
Kate is a lifelong learner, continually expanding her knowledge by studying Pilates in various cities which reflects her commitment to staying at the forefront of the industry. She has a remarkable ability to tailor each session to her clients’ individual needs, ensuring that they get the most out of their practice, whether in private sessions or in small group classes. Her attention to detail and personal approach to teaching set her apart as a Pilates instructor.
In addition to her studio work, Kate’s teaching skills were highly sought after by SCAD, a local university, where she regularly taught Pilates classes, and by celebrities who visited Savannah for filming. Her influence in the community is undeniable, and she built a reputation for being not just an instructor, but a true mentor who deeply cared about her clients’ well-being.
For anyone looking to deepen their Pilates practice or simply experience the best in the field, Kate Colette is without question one of the finest instructors you will find.

Catherine - When I heard the words “breast cancer,” I felt an electric shock go throughout my entire body. I felt as if I floated and could not understand another word the doctor said. It was as if my hearing disappeared.
Over the next year, I had surgeries, radiation, chemo drugs. I also felt a loss of control over my body and my life. The devastation of losing a breast empties the heart of a woman, as breasts are part of being a woman. In addition, as a self-employed person, I lost my business too.
After over two years of being inactive, I started going to physical therapy for my hip. Slowly, I felt stronger and happier. However, PT was not enough. I needed to feel I had control over my mind and my body. People suggested yoga but my joints hurt so badly from the chemo drugs that I did not think that would work for me.
My physical therapist suggested Pilates as an alternative. I looked on-line and found Starland Pilates. I signed up for two lessons. I felt clumsy and out of shape. However, I left both days with a better sense of mental and physical control. After sharing my story with Kate, she suggested I might be eligible for a scholarship.
I am so grateful for the scholarship as it allowed me to have 10 lessons at no cost. The mental, physical, and emotional improvements I feel are a direct result of Pilates. For the first time in three years, I had control of my body again. It may sound so simplistic but that feeling is fundamental to human beings.
For three years, cutting, radiation, and toxic chemicals assaulted my body. Pilates gave me a gift of making my body do what I wanted it to do. Because of the focus you must have during lessons, it lets your mind clear. The rhythmic motions are soothing and restore confidence in your body.
I have re-gained range of motion on my left side. My left arm functions almost as well as the right arm. Kate measured my gains and it is astonishing to me how quickly I have gained movement and strength.
Kate is so knowledgeable about anatomy and Pilates instruction. However, she talks about nutrition, and posture, and even how best to carry myself when walking the dog!
I am eternally grateful for this opportunity.
